Join RCIScience for a special evening with Dr. Dawn Bazely, winner of the 2022 Fleming Medal for Excellence in Science Communication! Dr. Bazely is a University Professor in the Faculty of Science at York University with an impressive, diverse range of activities as a science communicator and activist for over 30 years.
Following presentation of the Fleming Medal, Dr. Bazely will join former Daily Planet host, well-loved author and past Fleming Medal recipient Jay Ingram for an intimate conversation about her career to date and her experiences advocating to make science a more inclusive space for all.
About Dr. Bazely
Dr. Dawn Bazely is a biology professor and plant ecologist with forty years of field experience in habitats ranging from deciduous forests to grasslands to tundra. She has won many teaching awards and is known for her public science work at libraries, in schools and parks, and also with Adventure Canada as an onboard botanist in the arctic!
About Jay Ingram
Jay Ingram has hosted two national science programs in Canada, Quirks and Quarks on CBC radio and Daily Planet on Discovery Channel Canada. His 19 books have been translated into 15 languages. Jay holds six honorary degrees and is a member of the Order of Canada. From 2005-2015, he chaired the Science Communications Program at the Banff Centre, and is co-founder of the arts and engineering smashup Beakerhead in Calgary. He currently co-hosts the podcast Anthropomania. In 1986, Jay also received RCIScience’s prestigious Fleming Medal, celebrating excellence in Canadian science communication.
