Lights, camera, action! RCIScience and the Fields Institute bring you monthly Movie Nights this Fall.
Kick off our series by riding into another dimension with 1997 Argentine sci-fi/thriller film, Moebius. Based on the classic 1950 short story "A Subway Named Mobius" by Armin Joseph Deutsch, the film is set in the Buenos Aires Underground, in a dark and dystopian Argentina. Embark on a journey of mysteries, missing trains (and people!), topology and hijinks.
Moderator Kyne Santos will lead a conversation with film expert, Diana Sanchez, as well as the director himself, Gustavo Mosquera R, as they take us behind the scenes of this cult classic and explore the mathematics woven into the story.

About the Speakers
Gustavo Mosquera R is an Argentinean director, screenwriter and producer. He's best known for his film, Moebius (1997), which is considered a classic of Argentinean cinema. Moebius received international fame and won several major film festival awards. The backstory behind the film is particularly fascinating, and you can learn about how he made the film with the help of his film students at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires.
Diana Sanchez has over 25 years experience in the International and Canadian film industry. She most recently served as TIFF's Senior Director of Film where she oversaw the organization's Festival and Cinematheque programming strategy, after collaborating at TIFF as a programmer for over 17 years. In 2011, Diana was founding artistic director of IFF Panama (the International Panama Film Festival) where she worked hand in hand with the executive director to create a launching pad for films from Central America and the Caribbean. She has participated on several film festival and national film fund juries both in Canada and abroad. Diana is currently consulting for several state and private film agencies while teaching at the University of Toronto from where she holds a Master's Degree in Cinema Studies.
Kyne Santos is known around the world for her successful YouTube channel where she creates DIY drag tutorials, and her TikTok channel where she tells math riddles and gives lessons on statistics. Fusing her two passions together, Kyne breaks down barriers with every upload, bringing STEM education to the queer community and queerness to STEM.
