What does it mean to be a scientist? Join us for a special discussion with University of Toronto graduate student Farah Qaiser as she shares details of her science journey to date. Explore the twists and turns that brought her to start a graduate degree in the exploding field of genome sequencing, where she is currently working to identify the underlying genetic risk factors in neurodevelopmental disorders in children. Spoiler alert: Farah's science journey involves many varied research projects, including studying fruit flies, gene editing using CRISPR, and bird-window collisions!
When not in the lab, Farah writes long Features articles for her campus newspaper, The Medium, and delivers science outreach, volunteering via STEM Fellowship, SciCommTO and Science Borealis.
This event is intended to provide opportunity for anyone considering embarking on a career in science to hear first-hand what it might be like and as such we particularly welcome youth from all backgrounds to attend.
