Eric Ocelewski is a former biophysics student turned maverick entrepreneur. He participated in The Big Data VR Challenge in the UK where he worked on visualizing big data sets using VR, such as those generated by the human genome project. Seeing the potential to reveal innovative ways of working with data, Eric began assembling a team of researchers and collaborators to form his own company, with a view of using video game environments for research, education, remote testing and training. But it was a cancer diagnosis that brought Eric into Canada’s health-care system. Using his experiences in STEM to help guide him through his cancer journey, Eric’s interests have shifted towards improving Health Care for all Canadians. Join Eric as he shares his views on the challenges we face as patients and how they differ from the challenges faced by health-care providers (physicians), highlighting critical components of clinical medicine and scientific medical research along the way.
