Dr. Stephanie Kereliuk helps us celebrate a belated #WorldDiabetesDay by sharing her research on heart disease ❤️ and diabetes 🧪, and her work with the ✨dream✨team, the Diabetes Research Envisioned and Accomplished in Manitoba (DREAM) Research Group at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM).
Stephanie successfully defended her PhD in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Manitoba at the end of October. Diabetes is a risk factor for future development of heart disease, and individuals with diabetes develop a specific form of cardiomyopathy known as diabetic cardiomyopathy. Her specific research focus is on how early life exposure to diabetes during pregnancy may predispose kids to heart disease later in life.
