Sidewalk Science will return in Summer 2023!

Science is all around us. And by the same token, so are scientists! That’s why we started a Sidewalk Science campaign as an opportunity for local scientists in Canada to connect and share their research directly with their neighbours.

The medium is up to you (we love this environmentally friendly DIY chalk paint on pavement) and the goal is simple - raise the profile of scientists across Canada, and have fun doing it.

Getting Started

  • Find a patch of sidewalk/wall*.

  • Introduce yourself (first name/social media handle) and what you study (in layman's terms!)

  • BE CREATIVE - include pictures/drawings 🎨

  • Invite your neighbours to ask you questions - but remember to check back and answer them!

  • The most successful sidewalk artists leave out some extra chalk for their neighbours to reply and ask questions in passing.

  • Tag @rciscience in your masterpiece.

  • Take a photo and share it on social media using #SidewalkScience and tagging @rciscience - we’ll like and share our favourites on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

  • Don’t be sad if the rain washes it away - consider it a new blank canvas!

* If you’re currently self-isolating, why not create a window display for your neighbours?!
